How to Define the Dog

The woman in reception pointed to a faux-leather chair and said “Please wait there for the present.” So I sat down and waited. I waited for a lifetime and nobody ever came to give me a present.

This is a parody of a short story that William’s teacher read to the class when he was eight, the arc of which he can’t remember, the essence of which he never forgot. The reason is that in essence it defines his life.
